Since 2004, Little Debbie’s Second Chance Home Inc, a non-profit 501(c)(3), has been committed to the mission of providing structured and nurturing homes for displaced adolescent females as well as teen parents and their babies.

Our staff and administration are dedicated to breaking generational cycles of poverty and abuse through this comprehensive approach to serving our community.LDSCH serves young women from diverse backgrounds. We advocate for minors who have had multiple placements in other child-care facilities, encountered trouble with the law, have been removed from their homes as a result of abuse or neglect, or are in need of supervision. Despite their historical lack of positive development, it is our belief that these young women can achieve and deserve a second chance. This dream was built on and fulfilled due in part to a sincere passion to help young women and families break away from the generational curses.

Our goal is the commitment to improve the academic achievement, self-esteem, social competence, and avoidance of problem/high-risk behavior by providing relationships with  caring, exceptionally trained adults who help our youth achieve their potential.

Transitional Housing Overview

Transitional Living Program

Building Hope, Building Dreams, Building A Brighter Future!

Not very many 18-year-olds are financially independent—most have a financial safety net as they transition from teenagers to independent adults. But children leaving the child welfare and juvenile justice system aren't as fortunate.
Little Debbie’s transitional and independent living programs target female youth age 18 and older who are in out-of-home placement and approaching independence. The programs focus on teaching them critical life skills and preparing them for their next critical steps to adulthood.

Our program provides assistance to help teens who are committed to the department of juvenile justice or in foster care complete a high school diploma or GED, enroll in additional education programs, obtain employment opportunities and increase their social skills and support network through transitional living group activities.

Tools and Resources Implemented
  • Assessment and implementation of individualized independent living plans
  • Individual, group counseling and community support individual
  • Case management
  • Substance abuse and teen parenting support groups
  • Life skills coaching and development training
  • Job Placement, College preparation and exploration
  • Supportive services for transitional youth with their own children
  • Assistance with personal expenses, including a monthly stipend for living expenses

    How Does it Work?
    Youth commune in secure housing with access to 24-hour security and supervision, case management, life coaches and support services. We then motivate young people participating in transitional living to complete life skills benchmarks by offering incentives as rewards.

    Little Debbie’s Homes has a proven track record that in more than 75 percent of our transitional living cases, teens completing the program continue as self-sufficient and productive members of their communities. Each participant qualifies for six months of aftercare support, if appropriate. Generally, a stay of nine to 12 months in the program allows for a youth to complete 75-80 percent or more of the program's goals.

    Criteria For Candidates
    • Shows initiative to earn a high school diploma or GED
    • Demonstrates motivation to hold a part-time job
    • Succeeded in out-of-home placement or drug treatment program, but has no adult support for living on his or her own
    • Demonstrates ability to follow rules and show respect for authority
    • Demonstrates the initiative and motivation to make some positive decisions and understands the consequences of choices in life
    • A parenting youth (i.e., a teen parent with a child) who displays some of the above characteristics
    • A youth who has been on his or her own too long to go back to the structure of a foster home or traditional group home.

    Little Debbie's Family Resource Center 
    In 2007, Little Debbie’s Second Chance Family Resource Center, Inc (LDFRC) was founded. LDFRC is a family and community support component of Little Debbie’s Second Chance Home. LDFRC is dedicated to breaking generational cycles of poverty and abuse through a wholistic approach to serving the community through clinical services, parent education, and adolescence development.


    Milestones:
    January 2008
    Little Debbie's Family Services, Inc. opened to the community. This comprehensive intervention center for empowering families offers intense counseling with the goal to preserve families, parent education, specifically teen parents, and teen program components to educate and empower young adults.

    January 2009
    Little Debbie's Family Services,Inc. is proud to launch our GED preparation and vocational training program for youth and adults who are in need of a second chance in life. This component of our program will include on site GED training, career, employment, and life skills coaching. We are very excited about this program because it is a necessity in our community.

    March 2009
    Little Debbie's Family Services, Inc. hosted their first "Helping Hands" orientation, which included Stand Up For Kids Atlanta. Offering mentor and volunteer opportunities to the members of our surrounding community was beneficial for LDFS, Inc. and its programs mission. Building partnerships with other organizations and community individuals is the orientations main focus. A helping hand is a helping hand no matter how it is lent and we look forward to our second "Helping Hands" orientation in the near future.

    August 2009
    Little Debbie's Family Services, Inc.'s GED program has begun! Members of the community have started their journey to securing their educational futures and improving the skills they will need to obtain their GED. The program is under the direction of Ms. Martha Blocker, LDFS Inc.'s Educational Director. We wish all of the participants luck and success in their endeavor.

    One of Little Debbie's residents has completed the program, as well as all entailed clinical services, and reunited with her family. Family reunification is one the main goals of Little Debbie's and we are proud to have another success story come from our program.

    April 2009
    Little Debbie's Second Chance Homes, Inc. is proud to announce the opening of our transitional living home. It is an alternative for young women age 18+ to smoothly transition from the group home environment to being on their own. As we celebrate the opening of our transition home we are also celebrating many of our residents obtaining summer employment. They are empowering and preparing themselves for bigger and brighter futures!

    June 2009
    Little Debbie's Second Chance Homes, Inc. has merged with Ida's Cove group home. Ida's Cove is now under the direction of Ms. Lakisha Stiggers. This means more young women have the chance to experience the same empowerment and preparation as the residents of Little Debbie's Second Chance Homes. Welcome to the family Ida's Cove!

    July 2009
    Little Debbie's and Ida's Cove's monthly celebration(s) have started. It is an opportunity for the residents to display their talents, share their thoughts, and ,most importantly, be recognized for their progress in everyday life. Guest Speaker Diane Wilson Jones of Creative Realization Inc. stopped by to offer the girls a few words of wisdom and encouragement. The celebration will commence each month to celebrate excellence, togetherness, and a second chance.
